Your full-day tour of Bavarian castles begins in Munich, where you'll board a comfortable, air-conditioned bus for a guided journey through Ludwig II's fairytale world. Discover Neuschwanstein Castle, Linderhof Palace, and King Ludwig's childhood home in Hohenschwangau.
LINDERHOF PALACE
The first stop is Linderhof Palace, commissioned by King Ludwig II and influenced by the grand design of Versailles. The palace, surrounded by beautifully landscaped gardens with fountains and sculptures, was completed between 1874 and 1886, making it the only castle finished during his lifetime. Today, the palace serves as a museum offering insight into Ludwig's extravagant taste. Designed in the luxurious Rococo style, Linderhof served as Ludwig’s private retreat, not a royal residence. Explore the palace and its grounds with your guide and see the magnificent Hall of Mirrors, the Venus Grotto (an artificial cave), and the stunning Mirror Lake, located just below the palace, which reflects its beauty.
HOHENSCHWANGAU CASTLE & TIME FOR LUNCH
After visiting Linderhof Palace, the tour will continue to Hohenschwangau Castle, located at the foot of Neuschwanstein Castle, where you'll have some free time to enjoy lunch. The 19th-century castle was the childhood home of King Ludwig II. It combines Gothic and Renaissance styles with beautifully painted murals and charming rooms. As you explore this historic site, you can enjoy stunning views of the surrounding lakes and mountains.
NEUSCHWANSTEIN CASTLE
After lunch, continue to Neuschwanstein Castle, where you'll explore its impressive Romanesque and Gothic rooms, including the Throne Room and King Ludwig II's elegant Bedroom. The castle is decorated with beautiful murals featuring scenes from Wagner's operas, and its design reflects Ludwig's admiration for medieval architecture and the grandeur of Versailles. The castle, which construction began in 1869, was intended to serve as a private residence for the King, but he died in 1886, and the castle was never completed. Inside, you'll see the Great Hall with its high ceilings, the Singer’s Hall, and the kitchen and servants' rooms. As you explore the castle, your expert guide will share interesting stories about King Ludwig II, the "Fairy Tale King", and his interesting life and mysterious death. Enjoy the perfect views from the balcony vantage points, overlooking the Alps, forests, and nearby lake, and explore the castle's surroundings. After the tour, relax and enjoy the scenic Bavarian landscape on your comfortable ride back to Munich.
